Elegance and Enchantment Summer Display

Hi Friends! My posts centering around home decor are few and far between, mostly because we are renting for the time being and I am hesitant to pour too much time into home projects that will only be around for so long. This bar/hutch in our dining room has become my little seasonal display area in the meantime!

I did a lot of browsing through summer decor ideas on Pinterest (as we all do) and I came across lots of “America” and “Beach” themed decor. While I love both, to me, the “America” thing starts to look a little “dated” once August rolls around, and we live right near the beach, so the Florida-beach thing was a little too on the nose for me. And let’s be honest— if you see me post one more nautical thing you may start throwing things at me.

You’ve heard me talk about my obsession with Paris and France, so my initial idea was to do a display inspired by a French Market. As I started to gather up some treasures to display, I remembered my “Quality Peaches” sign that I used to have hanging in my kitchen in Connecticut, along with two other similar signs (one that says “Apples” and one that says “Oranges”). So I dug that out of storage, and it became the centerpiece for the display. I bought the sign about 6 or 7 years ago from The Christmas Tree Shop (missing you). The Northeasterners know all about this magical store that sells much more than Christmas Trees. I’m not even sure that they actually sell Christmas Trees. While I’m missing it, at least I have World Market close by to make up for it!

As I started to place some additional items, it wasn’t feeling so “French” to me, so I’m just calling it a “Farmer’s Market Display” instead. PS, I feel like I’m completely overusing quotation marks in this post. Roll with me!

I get a lot of compliments on my regular handwriting, but it obviously doesn’t translate to the chalkboard. I tried my best! The cute chalkboard/stand comes from Kirklands. I definitely plan to use it again for other holidays and will hopefully be able to con someone with better chalkboard handwriting to do the wording next time around!

The pretty red picture frame is from Ross – a mecca of all things ridiculously cheap. Seriously, I bought 3 dress shirts along with this frame for a total of $32.00. The photo in the frame really has nothing to do with a Farmer’s Market, or France, but it was just taken recently, and I think I’m forever obsessed with it. It’s me (on the left) with my three sisters taken in Cape Cod, right in the same spot where we took my sister’s wedding photos a year earlier. The photo of said wedding photo can be seen in my Spring Mantel blog post— and I swear, I wasn’t even thinking about it, but now I guess I’ll have to figure out a way to get that same photo spot to appear somewhere in my Fall decor!

The watering can vase, from Michael’s holds a beautiful bouquet of wildflowers in red and orange. I have a talent for killing my plants, and this area gets virtually no sunlight, so the flowers are all fake (but still pretty), from Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Last, but not least, the bottom book with the spoon on it, is a cookbook that my mom bought me. The “Paris” book is actually a hollow book that I bought from Michael’s in January (it actually holds all of my Christmas cards from last year). The clock my be my favorite piece— and was my very first purchase made from the aforementioned World Market.

I really love the color scheme of this display, especially since it will keep into August and the beginning of the harvest season. My challenge in the Fall will be to create something in fall colors, but that looks different! I’d love to see your summertime decor! Feel free to link up your photos in the comments so I can take a peek. 🙂 Happy Summer!
