The value of taking the time to accomplish something, or get to a destination, cannot be underestimated. We have programmed ourselves to crave instant gratification, but much can be lost by not slowing down and taking each step necessary to complete something. The process is lost when we desire to jump to the results immediately. And it’s often in the process that we learn the most and experience the most growth. Reading this reminds me of the first (and only) 14’er I ever hiked. It was a challenging 13.5 hour hike up and down the mountain, but through it I learned patience and perseverance, and to take the full road to get to somewhere. The lessons I learned that day would not have been as profound, and the victory would not have been as sweet, if I had tried to take shortcuts. So, whatever you’re doing, whether climbing a mountain, or facing any number of challenges, resist the urge to take shortcuts, and you will see how rewarding the entire process can be. – Janna Madsen
