Even in Florida, where everyone whines about the heat, summer remains to be my favorite season—and I look for every opportunity to celebrate it! After our 2-month long, drawn out move into our new place, we are finally feeling settled and ready to entertain some guests. There are no shortage of barbecue and picnics in the coming months, so James and I had the idea for something a little bit different: a wine party!
James is primarily a red wine drinker and I stick to the bubbly varieties, but our good friends and wine connoisseurs have been inspiring us to step outside of our comfort zones and try out some whites. In doing a little research, I learned that Sauvignon Blanc is a perfect summer wine, as it’s flavors include hints of lime, passion fruit, apple and peach. How have I not tried this sooner?
Sonoma-Cutrer, a winery known for their world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines, has just introduced an exclusive winemaker’s release that just happens to be a Sauvignon Blanc, so I knew I had found the perfect bottle to be the star of our little wine soiree. The tasting notes on the bottle describe exactly what I had in mind: a sleek and crisp palate with tropical flavors of guava and passion fruit that mingle with citrus notes of grapefruit and lime.
Just reading the label got me excited to start coming up with some food pairings to go along with the Sauvignon Blanc. Here’s what we have planned for our menu:
– Roasted Artichoke Salad with Lemon and Mint
– Fire Roasted Pepper and Feta Crostini
– Marinated Olives
– Proscuitto and cheese platter
Doing all of this research really got me excited to try some additional wine/food pairings. Our summer wine soiree may just need to continue throughout other seasons of the year. Sonoma-Cutrer would make it easy to set the tone for future events through their wine club, which offers exclusive wines and 3 shipments/year. I love the idea of knowing that my new favorite wine might be out there and I haven’t even discovered it yet. If you’re like me, and sometimes need a little nudge to try new things, I think this club is for us!
If you are a west-coaster or planning a visit to California soon, you can even stop by the Sonoma Cutrer winery itself for a Winery Tour and tasting. Not only does it look like a wine-lovers paradise but also a gorgeous, picturesque location. I think it may be time for us to plan a trip to Windsor!
Be sure to stop on back over later this month when I’ll be sharing highlights from our summer celebration of wine and friends! If reading this has inspired you to plan your very own wine party, follow along with Sonoma Cutrer here:
