When it comes to waiting on other people, I’m as patient as they come. When it comes to myself? Not so much. As a business owner, I’m constantly planting seeds, trying new ideas and figuring out the best use of my time. It’s difficult.
The hardest part is presenting a new idea, product or offering and being unsure how it will be received. Will my audience like it? Will they find worth in what I’ve created? Or will all of my hard work have been for nothing?
IS IT WORTH THE RISK?
You don’t have to own a business to experience these moments of doubt. Anytime we put ourselves out there, whether it be reaching out to someone new in hopes of forming a friendship, or changing careers, or moving to a new city or attempting a new hobby— we open ourselves to vulnerability and we don’t know if it will pay off, or blow up in our face.
There’s the easy option: don’t put yourself out there and don’t risk getting burned. Or the option that has the potential to change your life in the most beautiful way: Try. When you trust that things will work out, something funny happens— it usually does.
When you live with the outlook that there are lessons in all circumstances, then you can never fail. Even if things don’t work out the way you thought, you’ll likely discover that there was something even better waiting for you.
TO PLANT A GARDEN IS TO BELIEVE IN TOMORROW
Plant those seeds. Literal and figurative ones. Have patience and believe that the fruits of your labor will blossom at just the right moment. This month’s free calendar card download will remind you of just that. Keep it handy, to remind yourself to keep hold tight to that belief.
