Real Wedding: Danielle & Justin

Invitations· Real Weddings· Weddings

Hi All! It’s been a crazy week in the Hickey household which has resulted in this post going up later than I had hoped. Between taking care of my hubby who has been recovering from a hip procedure (just in case anybody is wondering, I’m not married to an 85 year old— just somebody who has the bone structure of one) and battling some major home plumbing issues I have had my hands full. But without further ado, I present our first “real wedding” post, featuring Danielle & Justin’s wedding…

Danielle & Justin’s wedding is significant not only because it is the first to be featured on this blog, but also because they are my cousins, which gave me the honor of witnessing their special day first hand. Coming from a typical large italian family, we grew up very close and Danielle has always been like a sister to me. I have considered Justin a cousin for many years, long before he officially joined our family.

It is always a treat to work on something for a family member, but creating these invitations were extra fun because Danielle is also a graphic designer and has terrific style (as does Justin). If these two photos from their engagement session don’t say “I’ve got style” I don’t know what does. How amazing do they look? These shots, taken by Ashley Therese Photography are beyond stunning.

Danielle & Justin chose the basic matted invitation option, which is both simple and classic. Many couples choose to “match” their invitation papers to their bridesmaid dresses, which is great for creating a consistent look for your wedding. However, choosing a secondary or neutral color instead can give your invitations a different vibe. Danielle & Justin went down that path by choosing to use onyx (shimmery black) matting with an ivory invitation. We introduced their bridesmaid dress color (a beautiful shade of purple) subtly into the type treatment. While we used one of my existing designs as a springboard, Danielle found a nice graphic that she really wanted to use. We swapped out the existing artwork for the piece that Danielle found, to truly make it their own. The end result was chic and elegant, just like them!

Here is the invitation design Danielle & Justin chose as a starting point.

Here are some shots of the finished piece.

The months leading up to the wedding were fun and filled with lots of celebrations. Here are some shots from Danielle’s bridal shower and bachelorette party.

Finally the big day arrived! People say that “rainy days bring good luck to weddings”, as a way to make the bride feel better. Even though their wedding day was rainy, it was full of so much love and happiness, that the phrase didn’t need mentioning. After a beautiful and meaningful ceremony, we partied down at their reception and had an amazing time. Danielle & Justin’s great taste and style were evident throughout all of the details of the day.
