Something Blue Ideas

Weddings

While there are many new wedding trends that are constantly popping up, wearing “something blue” on your wedding day is a timeless tradition that many brides continue to carry on. Stemming from an old English rhyme, “something blue” is meant to represent purity, love and fidelity. An obvious choice for many brides has always been to wear a blue garter. For those who have opted to forgo the garter toss or are looking to put a creative spin on a tired and true ritual, here are five additional ways for you to sport your “something blue” on your wedding day:

Jewelry

Make a bold statement with a stylish blue necklace, or take a more subtle approach by wearing a bracelet or earrings with small blue accent stones. Jewelry is an easy way to represent your “something blue” as well as add some elegance and color to compliment your white gown.

Hair accessories

If you are considering skipping the traditional bridal veil, you may want to consider wearing a hair barrette or flowers in your hair instead. Barrettes can double as a piece of jewelry and blue flower options range from hydrangeas to anemones.

Eye shadow

With endless shades of blue out there, eye shadow is a perfect way to add “something blue” to your wedding day. Though people may think “80’s” when they think of blue eye shadow, there are various shades to blend and still leave you with a sexy and sophisticated look, such as smoky eyes.

Shoes

Shoes are a simple accessory that can serve as “something blue.” Whether you decide on blue heels for the wedding ceremony or flats to wear at the reception, the shading of blue can be as flashy or subtle as you’d like them to be. You can even opt for blue gems, a decal or a bow on a pair of shoes in a different color.

Handbag

Choose from carrying a blue toned bag itself or pick a bag of your choice with blue accents, like feathers, gems or a sash.
