I first shared this post with the subscribers to my font insider e-newsletter, and since then I have actually decided to take the challenge to create my own chalkboard art. Before I reveal my results, I thought it would be a good idea to share my inspiration behind tackling this project.
There’s an awesome antique/vintage gift store here in Jacksonville called Rusted that I’m completely obsessed with. The last time I stopped in, I noticed that they had tons of inspirational quotes for sale (similar to my Motivation Monday prints), that were written on chalkboards in stunning typography. I started chatting with one of the store owners and she told me that she had created them herself using a really easy tracing method, AND that she was going to start offering chalkboard lettering classes, right in the store!
I haven’t had the chance to make it to a class yet, but this led me to a little more investigation into this so-called “easy” method of chalkboard lettering. Call me naive, but I was under the impression that all the fabulous chalkboard art I had seen in the past had been hand-drawn by some seriously talented artists.
It turns out that chalkboard lettering is actually something that anyone can do, and you don’t need to have artistic talent whatsoever. Below is a list of online tutorials and tips that you can use to create your own chalkboard art. If you’re more of a hands on learner, I’d definitely suggest doing a little googling to see if they offer any chalkboard lettering classes in your local area.
